Not gonna lie I had set expectations real high walking in, and illumination has yet to fail me until now. The piece is perhaps lacking cohesion, and that illumination magic that keeps adults and kids entertained and emerged in the “experience”, which has been the major factor driving audience to the big screens. The plot is there and there’s nothing wrong with the characters in my opinion, but the introduction of characters and the stitch of storylines are almost laughable. A combination of weak character introduction, jumpy and choppy plot and not to mention the reLevaNcY of the mega minions, really grabbed any chances for me liking this movie in the neck like Homer Simpson holding Bart and throw it in the trash. And did I mention about the villain? Exactly what villain. Hats off to the consist quality animation and voice actors though, good work. Overall, wouldn’t mind watching it on a long haul or if I’ve got more than enough time to kill, but I might argue there’re better choices out there.
As always, try lowering your expectations and enjoy the piece, maybe it’s just not the right perspective.
